Celebrating our Trustees

“I was delighted to be asked to join the Board,” said Luise Vassie, who is one of Lionheart’s valued Trustees that give their time voluntarily to support our Trust. “I see myself as a critical friend,” she said.

“That means offering support but also asking questions, seeking assurance and making sure decisions align with the Trust’s values and strategy."

Trustees’ Week – 3rd – 7th November – is a chance to recognise the dedication of our Trustees who are just a few of the nearly one million Trustees across the UK, who help organisations thrive.

Lionheart’s Board of Trustees play a vital role in shaping the future of our 17 East Midlands schools. Their insight and support help us focus on our mission and deliver the best possible outcomes for over 12,000 pupils.

“Lionheart’s mission really resonates with me, and I don’t think you can be an effective Trustee unless you believe in what the organisation stands for,” said Luise.

“I’ve always believed education is the golden thread that leads to brighter futures.”

Luise joined the Lionheart Board in 2022 from Apollo Multi Academy Trust when they joined Lionheart, bringing with them their three Coalville schools; The Castle Rock School, The Newbridge School and Broom Leys Primary School.

Luise brings a wealth of experience from across education, policy and risk management. She’s worked with awarding bodies, led a small charity focused on hazard and risk learning and held senior roles in consultancy, social housing and health and safety. Her background gives her a broad perspective and a strong sense of purpose, qualities that greatly augment Lionheart’s Board.

As part of her role at Lionheart, Luise participates in both the Audit, Compliance and Risk Committee and the Finance and Operations Committee. She’s also the link Trustee for Riverside Primary School and Martin High School, attending their Local Governing Body meetings and supporting their development.

Throughout her role as Trustee, Luise has continued to develop further knowledge in areas such as safeguarding, cyber security and data protection, meaning she gains personal development too.

Luise’s voluntary role enjoys moments of pupil and staff celebration too. In 2025 she helped judge the Heart Awards, Lionheart’s employee award scheme, and at the awards event in July, she presented the Teams winners with their well-deserved trophies.

Luise values the opportunity to work alongside a diverse group of professionals, all committed to making a difference, and concluded:

“The best bit about being a Lionheart Trustee is being part of something that’s a game changer for young people.”

The insight and commitment of individuals like Luise – and our other Trustees - help drive meaningful change across our schools and play a vital role in shaping the direction of the Trust, for which we are ever thankful.
