Local MP visits Team HP

At the end of October, excitement reverberated around Humphrey Perkins in Barrow upon Soar, who welcomed Dr Jeevun Sandher – Member of Parliament (MP) for Loughborough – to their school

Dr Sandher – elected following the 2024 General Election – was warmly greeted by Associate Principal Mrs Bartram and the school’s Year 11 Head Boy and Girl, who gave him a guided tour of the site, offering him a glimpse into life as part of ‘Team HP.’

After the tour, Dr Sandher headed to Humphrey Perkins’ much-loved Hogwarts-style library, where he met with the Year 10 and 11 Junior Leadership Team. Over refreshments, they discussed a range of regional and national topics, with students relishing the chance to ask questions and share their views.

They covered a broad range of topics, from Dr Sandher’s journey into politics, to how young people can support their communities. They also discussed local issues, including recent flooding concerns and the steps being taken to help residents protect their homes.

Dr Sandher then sat down with Mrs Bartram to talk about wider issues in education and local matters that directly affect the school.

We were thrilled to welcome our local MP, Dr Jeevun Sandher to Humphrey Perkins.

said Associate Principal, Della Bartram.

During a school tour, he was able to see our wonderful school in action.

He was generous with his time and some of our Year 10 and Year 11 students were given the opportunity to ask him questions and learn more about politics and local issues.

She added:

His visit helped to highlight the issues facing us all and he encouraged our students to find their voice, help one another and to be ‘the best they can be.’

It was a real pleasure to visit Humphrey Perkins for a tour of the school and a Q&A with the students.

Dr Jeevun said.

Their questions were sharp and thoughtful and it was a brilliant discussion. It's clear the young people at Humphrey Perkins are engaged with the issues that matter in our community and they have bright futures.

Thank you to the staff and students for welcoming me for an insightful visit.
