Outstanding GCSE Results for Students

Joy and pride filled the halls of Lionheart schools across the East Midlands this morning (Thursday 21st August), as our Year 11 students celebrated another outstanding set of GCSE results.

Supported every step of the way by our dedicated teachers and associate staff, our students have worked tirelessly throughout the academic year – and their efforts have truly paid off with results that not only reflect their commitment but also surpass national averages in key areas.

Across the Trust, 73.3% of all GCSE entries achieved grade 4 or above, and 57.9% secured grade 5 or higher, figures that both exceeded national averages. In core subjects, performance was particularly strong, with 74.4% of Maths entries and 74.1% of English entries achieving grade 4 or above.

Here’s a round-up of the fantastic results from our schools across Leicester, Leicestershire, and Derbyshire:

Maths - 9-4 = 71.9% / English - 9-4 = 70.6% / All entries - 9-4 = 70.5% / All entries - 9-5 = 55%

CEO of Lionheart Educational Trust, Kath Kelly, said:

Congratulations to all students across the Lionheart Educational Trust who received their GCSE results today. This cohort began their secondary school journey under extraordinary circumstances due to the pandemic. Yet, they have shown incredible strength and perseverance, and their achievements are a testament to their resilience and commitment to learning.

We’re pleased that the percentage of all GCSE entries graded 9-5 across Lionheart schools exceeds the average for England, highlighting our continued commitment to ensuring academic excellence for every student.

These strong results reflect not only the hard work of our learners but also the dedication of our exceptional staff and the invaluable support from families at home.

Whether heading into further education or training, I wish every student the very best for their next steps.

Many students will now continue their Lionheart journey at one of our exceptional sixth form provisions, where they’ll embark on a diverse mix of A-level and Level 3 courses. Others are set to take exciting steps into the world of apprenticeships, pursuing practical pathways across a wide range of industries.

Many of our GCSE students were in Year 6 when the COVID-19 pandemic first hit and were, therefore, required to negotiate transition to secondary school under a cloud of disrupted learning, having not sat Key Stage 2 SATs.

We’re incredibly proud of the resilience they have shown and everything they have gone on to achieve at our schools. We wish them every success as they take the next steps in their learning journey!
