Times Tables Showdown

Classrooms across Lionheart Educational Trust were a blizzard of mathematics in late March as Year 4 pupils from across our schools took part in a times tables tournament, to warm-up for this summer’s Multiplication Tables Check*.

From breakfast to bedtime on Friday 20th March, the enthusiastic mathematicians logged on to the Time Tables Rockstars virtual arena to battle against their peers. The healthy competition saw scores skyrocket as the children boosted their fluency and represented their classes with pride.

Broom Leys Primary School claimed the overall title after an incredible team effort, with Hallam Fields Primary School rivalling them all the way to finish a well-deserved second.

Broom Leys also secured a class double, with 4G crowned highest-scoring class thanks to a stunning average score. Hot on their heels throughout the day were Broom Leys’ 4M class, who kept the pressure firmly on.

There was even more to celebrate for Broom Leys as Emmanuel’s sharp thinking saw him rack up an astonishing 4,157 correct answers in just one hour, the highest total achieved by any pupil. That was more than one correct answer every second.

Congratulations to the winners and a huge well done to every pupil who took part. This Trust-wide event sparked plenty of friendly rivalry while helping children strengthen a vital skill in a fun and memorable way.
